World’s biggest online retailer sets up new logistics centre near Augsburg

Amazon is everywhere. Via internet the world’s biggest online store is accessible from any location. From mid-2012, however, Amazon will also be accessible for real at its new location in the Swabian community of Graben, near Augsburg. The US group is in the process of building its new logistics centre there with a floor space of 110,000 square metres. Graben’s excellent location factors were the key reason for Amazon’s decision.
Amazon’s new distribution centre is being built on a site the size of about 16 football pitches.

Amazon’s new distribution hub further strengthens Bavaria’s position as a premier logistics location. The Group suggests that it will create 1,000 permanent and 2,000 seasonal jobs at Graben.

Armin Cossmann, Regional Director at Amazon, explains: “The excellent support throughout the entire planning and decision process by Invest in Bavaria, the Augsburg District administration, the community of Graben and the local employment agency complete the positive picture”.

Construction of the new centre is progressing rapidly. As early as the fourth quarter of 2011 the first Amazon packages are to be shipped from Graben.
