E.on sealed billions-worthy gas supply contract with Canada, thereby gaining more independance from its main partner, Russian Gazprom.

Germany's largest energy group sealed an important contract over the supply of liquid gas from Canada. As confirmed by their press agent, starting 2020, E.on will acquire yearly 6.5 bn cubic meters of liquid gas (LNG) from Canadian company Pieridae Energy. This makes for roughly 7% of the yearly gas demand in Germany. The price was not made public, but is estimated to be several billion Euros yearly.

The contract is said to be "a milestone of our diversification efforts", said the E.on press agent. Among other suppliers, E.on buys gas from Russia and Norway. One of the group's main partners is the Russian State group Gazprom.
