Minister Herrmann welcomes Minister Bergeron - picture Gouvernement du Québec

From September 26th to October 2nd, 2013, the minister of public safety in Québec, Mr. Stéphane Bergeron, visited Bavaria, then Berlin and Dresden. The focus of discussions and meetings was the fight against organised crime and corruption, protection against natural disasters, and safety during big demonstrations or public events.

On the first day of his visit, Minister Bergeron met with his Bavarian counterpart, Minister of Interior Affairs, Traffic and Construction Joachim Herrmann. Central topics, such as the fight against organised crime and corruption, were discussed. The following day, Bergeron and his team were welcomed by the Bavarian Red Cross in Bad Wiessee,  at the protection center against catastrophes, in the presence of a delegation of the Quebec Red Cross. Discussions were held concerning civil protection, medical services and first aid.

Other visits were equally fruitful in terms of exchanges, diplomatic relations and the sharing of experience : a visit at the helicopter training area in Bad Tölz, one at the Criminal Investigations Department about the fight against organised crime and terrorism, and discussions at the Munich police station concerning safety in public events. What's more, the Minister met with the President of the Bavarian Landtag (parliament) Mrs. Barbara Stamm, to talk about topics concerning the bipartite Bavaria-Quebec parliamentary commission.

The delegation of the minister then left Munich in order to visit Berlin, where it took part in a reception on the occasion of the official inauguration ceremony for the new General Delegate of Quebec in Munich, Mr. Michel Côté. “The relations with Germany are important for our government – not only from an economic point of view, but also from a political and cultural one”, Mr. Bergeron stressed.

This visit is part of the Bavaria-Quebec cooperation in public safety, for which a common declaration had been signed in April 2011, as the Bavarian Minister of Interior Affairs, Joachim Herrmann, visited Quebec.
