Calendar coincidence : On December 11, 2013, two exceptional literary events will take place on both sides of the Atlantic, as part of the cultural cooperation between Bavaria and Quebec.

In Montreal, the Goethe Institut will hold a literary evening around Quebec poet Gilles Cyr and his translator in German, Michael von Killisch-Horn, currently resident artist in Montreal thanks to the cooperation between CALQ (Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec) and Villa Waldberta, international artists house of the city of Munich. On an invitation of UNEQ (Union des écrivaines et des écrivains du Québec), they will read excerpts from their pieces (original poems and their translations in German), and will exchange with the audience about the challenges of translating poetry into a foreign language. The State of Bavaria Quebec Office will be happy to round up the evening with a glass of wine.

In Munich, Montreal poet Chantal Neveu, currently resident artist at Villa Waldberta, will go the same path together with Munich-based translator Bernadette Ott – who herself was a resident artist in Montreal a few years back, as part of the same literary exchange program between Bavaria and Quebec. The evening will take place at Munich’s Institut Français, where a cocktail will be offered by the General Delegate of Quebec, Mr. Michel Côté.
