2014 is to date the most successful year for the Bavarian tourism branch. With almost 32.5 million guest arrivals and 85.2 million overnight stays, the previous record levels of 2013 were clearly surpassed (by 2.7% regarding the guest arrivals and 1.3% the overnight stays). The employment rate in the sector increased by 1.6%.

Minister of Economic Affairs Ms. Ilse Aigner: “Bavaria has remained steady and even extended its top position in tourism. The State of Bavaria stays the top travel destination in Germany. The numbers show how productive the Bavarian tourism businesses are. All participants in tourism contributed to this enormous success and thereby confirmed tourism in Bavaria as a booming and growing sector.”

In February 2015, Ms. Aigner also presented the new interministerial team, which is dedicated to tourism: Tourism policy is a central pillar of our global economic policy.  To create optimal conditions for tourism, I established an interministerial team. Beyond the boundary of departmental responsibility, we strive to support Bavarian tourism even more by creating additional synergies.”

Next to the trending health tourism, another important field of the future is digitization. Bavaria will support the tourism with various measures in terms of the Bavarian digitization offensive.  BAYERN TOURISMUS Marketing, representing Bavaria in Germany and abroad as a travel destination, pursues a remarkably dynamic Social Media campaign with its international trademark “Visit Bavaria” proving an important fans growth and high interaction levels.

Tourism appeared again as an important engine fuelling economic growth for both urban and rural areas.
