The executive board of the Bavarian parliament travels to Canada - Visit to the partner region Québec and first contacts with the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia

The executive board (Praesidium) of the Bavarian parliament of Bavaria (Landtag) is undertaking a one-week trip to Canada this week. In addition to the traditionally intensive dialogue with the National Assembly of Bavaria’s partner region Quebec, this time discussions with members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia are also on the agenda. Next to the president of the Landtag Mrs. Barbara Stamm, Vice-president Mr. Reinhold Bocklet, Mr. Peter Meyer and Mrs. Ulrike Gote, elected representatives in the Landtag, take part in the journey, as well as members of the executive board Prof. Dr. Peter Paul Gantzer, Mr. Hans Herold, Ms. Angelika Schorer, Ms. Reserl Sem and Ms. Sylvia Stierstorfer.

Mrs. Stamm, president of the Bavarian Landtag, underscores: “Traditionally we maintain a close bond with our partner regions on parliamentary level. That’s why we are happy to meet our Quebec friends yet again, to exchange on current political issues. Asylum and immigration policies, the public health care system, but also fiscal balance between Canadian provinces are issues which offer great common value for our discussions.

In Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, meetings with MLAs and the participation in a plenary session are on the agenda. Additionally, the president of the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Linda Reid, will welcome the delegation.

In Québec the delegation expects discussions with the president of National Assembly Mr. Jacques Chagnon, as well as and bilateral work sessions on key topics such as inclusion, demographic change and equal living conditions. Alongside these topics, on-site visits are planned. Another highlight will be a meeting with the Prime Minister of Québec, Mr. Philippe Couillard.
