City of Munich Police Department officials visit Quebec City, Montreal and Nicolet: Experience and information exchanges in the field of public safety

From October 19 to 23, 2015, the President of Munich City Police Department, Mr. Hubertus Andrä, and his colleague Chief of Criminal Investigations Mr. Harald Pickert, both visited Quebec as a further step in the cooperation in public safety affairs between Bavaria and Quebec. Their program, co-organized by the State of Bavaria Quebec Office and the Ministry of Public Safety of Quebec, encompassed several high-ranking meetings.

Among others, they had lengthy discussions with Mr. Denis Marsolais, Deputy Minister, and his colleague, Mrs. Marie Gagnon, Assistant Deputy Minister for Police Affairs in the Ministry of Public Safety in Quebec City. They were also able to visit the École nationale de Police du Québec (national police school of Quebec), as well as the headquarters of Sûreté du Québec and those of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (City of Montreal Police Department). In all locations they could listen to numerous presentations about the fight against radicalization and organised crime, international police cooperation, as well as police forces education..

Through experience and information exchanges, many similarities were brought to light between cities like Montreal and Munich, both approx. 1.8 million inhabitants and both facing the same kind of modern challenges. Police and public safety approaches could also be compared. Exchanges should go on over the next months.
