On November 27th, 2017, Rodeo FX, the Canadian company for animation and visual effects (VFX) announced the opening of their first European site in Munich. Besides its cooperation in the Game of Thrones TV-production, the company is known for its visual effect in movies such as Blade Runner 2049 that is currently shown in cinemas. With the new studio in Munich, the company does not only explore a promising new market, but therewith also has access to a specialised and highly talented European pool of artists.

Thomas Hullin und Julie Kubbillun (VFX Producer) will share the leadership of the new studio situated in Munich district Maxvorstadt.

“We chose Munich deliberately”, says Hullin. Germany and especially the region around Munich is an important centre for VFX in Europe. With the new location on location, the company could benefit of the excellent infrastructure of the European market. Rodeo FX does not only focus on movies and TV-series: “We were involved in numerous advertising films and want to expand this business sector in Europe”.

The objective is to recruit around 20 staff members and to work closely with other locations in Montreal, Quebec and Los Angeles.

“The new location in Munich provides new opportunities on exploring contacts to artists. The access to top talents from Europe will enrich our whole company”, so Jordan Soles, Vice President Technology and Development. “Rodeo FX places the main emphasis on artistic and human values. That is why for us it is so important to find a new location offering a great quality of life and an international character that attracts young people all over Europe“, adds Kubbillun.

Many media groups such as ProSiebenSat1 are represented in that area.

“Munich makes the ideal location for Rodeo FX, where we can enhance our client base and to realize bigger projects in the area“, says Hullin. “The film and advertising market around here is changing a lot at the moment and  here in Munich we see perfect conditions to grow within Germany and to reach our ambitious goals.“

Both Thomas Hullin and Julie Kubbillun are part of Rodeo FX since 2015. And they both are happy to contribute their experiences on film-post-production collected over several years in Europe to the new site in Munich.

Sébastian Moreau, president and founder of Rodeo FX: “In november 2016 Thomas Hullin and me started to search a studio location in Europe. We very quickly decided to choose Munich. With our new studio we are perfectly prepared for the European market.“
