The Success Stories

Munich Airport voted one of the best airports in the world for the sixth time and Europe’s best Airport.

Munich Airport has yet again been voted one of the best airports in the World Airport Awards. This marks the sixth time Munich has received this honour, which it won last year and four years in a row from 2005 to 2008. In the worldwide rankings, Munich Airport matched the outstanding number four position it achieved in the previous year. This was the outcome of the latest survey by the London-based independent aviation research institute Skytrax, based on the replies of over 11 million passengers from more than 100 countries and 240 airports. “The award underlines the success of the Munich Airport in favour of the people and the economy of the State of Bavaria” explains Mr. Georg Fahrenschon, Finance Minister in the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and chairman of the supervisory board at the “Flughafen München GmbH”.

The year 2011 will likely see thrice as many passenger board or land as in 1992, year of the beginning of operation. Munich has undoubtedly placed itself as the number two at the national level and ranks in 7th place at the European level, with 35 millions passengers in 2010. Alone on the airport ground around 18 000 additional job opportunities have opened up since the opening of the airport. 30 000 people work there by now. There are also 10 000 new job openings that come with the booming airport business outside of the outlines of the airport.
