Study in Bavaria

Bilateral University Cooperation

Several universities from Bavaria and Quebec maintain bilateral cooperation programs and offer courses with a semester abroad. The Bavarian Ministry of Education lists all existing bilateral partnerships here (chose "Kanada").

Furthermore, a stay abroad may be organized and acknowledged outside existing cooperation programs: the International Affairs bureau of your university should be able to give you more information.

Student Exchange Program

The Student Exchange Program of the universities' cooperation office (BCI - Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire, formerly CRÉPUQ) offers the opportunity to Quebec students to spend a semester in Bavaria in the following partner universities: Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Ludwig Maximilians Universität München, and Technische Universität München.

Within this cooperation program, an "Advisor" is available in the universities in Quebec to help planning. Click here to access the list of Advisors per Quebec university: Chose "Students Registered at a Quebec University" (left-hand menu) and then "Québec Advisors".

Exchange programs for special target groups

Foreign Language Teaching Assistants Program

As part of its cooperation with the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst (German Teaching Exchange Services Office), the Quebec Ministry of Education offers a Foreign Language Teaching Assistants Program (second or third language) to Quebec students wishing to work in Germany. German schools wishing to welcome a French Teaching Assistant through this program can apply here.

German students can also take advantage of the reciprocal program to become Teaching Assistants in Quebec.

Bavaria-Quebec School Exchange Program

In cooperation with the Bayerischer Jugendring (BJR - Association for Bavarian Youth), the Quebec Ministry of Education offers pupils from Grades 9 and 10 the opportunity to spend 3 months in Germany as exchange partners with pupils from 9th and 10th year Gymnasium, who then come spend 3 months in Quebec. The program is managed by the BJR in Bavaria and Éducation internationale in Québec (Échanges Azimut) and spans over 6 months. Read more about this program.

Quebec pupils interested in this opportunity should contact Échanges Azimut.

Financing opportunities

Bavaria-Quebec Cooperation

The Quebec Ministry of International Relations offers 2 Bourses des premiers ministres Québec-Bavière, in order to strengthen and foster links and exchanges in education matters between universities of Bavaria and of Quebec. The grants are 5000$ each and are awarded for short-term stays in Bavaria (4-12 weeks) to Quebec undergraduate and graduate students who wish to carry on their studies or take on research endeavours.

Other financing opportunities

The loans and grants program of the Quebec Government has funds to help Quebec students abroad. Click here for further financial support programs.

A central information website for studies in Bavaria indicates further financial support sources, locally:

The "BayBIDS" support program targets students from German schools abroad. BayBIDS awards trial scholarships to graduates of German schools abroad who begin their courses of study in Bavaria. In addition, groups of foreign pupils can come to Bavarian universities for trial courses of study whilst in their final year at school.

In Germany, when staying for study or internship purposes, one can apply to scholarships from the DAAD - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst. The website helps foreign students and graduates gather information and access a database with a wide choice of international study courses

Finally, in cooperation with the German federal Education Ministry, the DAAD put together a general information website for foreign students:
