On February 9, the State of Bavaria Montreal Office had the great pleasure to participate in the German Studies Day of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), which was held under the theme “Germany’s Challenges in the 21st Century”.

In this context, Gabrielle Rousseau-Bélanger, Assistant to the Director, gave a presentation on some highlights of Bavarian culture and politics, followed by a more detailed overview over the bilateral cooperation between Bavaria and Quebec, established since 1989.

The talk was followed, among others, by a presentation of the German Consul General to Montreal, Mrs. Susanne Aschi-Glesius, who addressed some of the challenges Germany is currently facing. Energy supply, the war in Ukraine, as well as international relations with leading world powers were major topics.

The event concluded with a panel discussion on Germany’s new geopolitical alignment. Moderated by Raphael Bouvier-Auclair (Radio Canada), Elisa Valentin from the General Delegation of Quebec to Munich talked with Laurence McFalls from the Université de Montréal and Laurent Borzillo from L’IEIM/UQAM.

We would like to thank Britta Starcke and Sebastian Döderlein from the École de langues de l’UQAM for successfully organizing this event.
